Hana-Matsuri 花祭り 4/15/2018

posted Apr 15, 2018, 1:55 PM by JAClub Administrator   [ updated Apr 15, 2018, 2:36 PM ]

Hana-Matsuri is the celebration of the birth of Sakyamuni Buddha.  He was born in Lumbini's Garden which is in the southern foothills of the Himalayas.  His father was King Suddhodana of the Sakya Clan and his mother Queen Maya.  He was named Prince Siddartha and the family name was Gautama.  When he became enlightened at the age of 35, people gave him the title of Buddha, the Enlightened One, and revered him as Sakyamuni, the sage of the Sakyas.

The various rites observed during Hanamatsuri (literally Flower Festival) services are based upon the happenings at the time of Prince Siddartha's birth.  The Hanamido or miniature floral altar of bright flowers provides the setting of the beautiful Lumbini's Garden.  The statue of the baby Buddha, Tanjo-Butsu, which has his arm extended, illustrates the merits of the Buddha reaching out to all beings.  The pouring of the sweet tea on the statue, kambutsu, represents the gentle rain which fell that day in Lumbini's Garden.

Thank you to Sensei Brian Nagata for conducting the Hana-Matsuri Service.

Pleasant Hill 4th of July Parade!

posted Jul 1, 2017, 1:46 PM by JAClub Administrator

Hello Families!

Diablo Nippongo Gakuen will be participating in this year's Pleasant Hill 4th of July parade and we hope you will join us!

The parade will begin at 9:30am and participants will begin gathering at 8:30.  W will find out our placement in the parade later this week.  The parade will begin at the corner of Gregory Lane and Woodsworth Lane.  (Last year we parked at Safeway and walked which wasn't so bad).

The organizers love festive groups so we encourage families to wear their Gakuen shirts, yukatas, happy coats, and other JA Club uniforms such as judo, kendo, taiko or Diablo basketball!  Kids can decorate bikes and scooters and wagons too.  Kids can also bring candy to pass out or how about origami?!  Make sure to bring sunscreen, water and wear comfortable shoes!

On behalf of Gakuen, we will bring some light pastries and fruit to enjoy prior to the walk.

If you have any questions, please contact Monaliza at 925-212-5823 (text or call).

We hope to have a larger turnout this year!  We had a lot of fun last year so we hope to see you all there!

P.S.  For more information, check out the Pleasant Hill website regarding the live music and jumpy houses and games for the whole family following the parade at the park.
