GoFundMe Page Established for JARCC

posted May 28, 2020, 4:05 PM by JA Club Calendar   [ updated May 28, 2020, 4:33 PM ]

As many of you are aware, the 2020 JARCC Summer Festival has been cancelled - due to concerns over the Covid-19 pandemic. A long-standing community event, it has annually attracted thousands of interested and hungry visitors during the weekend long cultural festivities. It has also served as the primary fundraiser for our non-profit organization, helping to defray maintenance and operational costs for the year.

Given the unanticipated shortfall, a number of JA Club members approached the JARCC Board of Directors with a proposal to set up a Go Fund Me page for donations, to aid the club during this time.

2021 JARCC Summer Festival Cancelled

posted May 13, 2020, 7:18 PM by JA Club Calendar   [ updated Apr 15, 2021, 9:53 PM ]

Fhe JARCC Board of Directors has regrettably decided to cancel the 2021 JARCC Summer Festival. This marks the second consecutive year that we have had to forego our much anticipated annual summer event.

As the primary fundraiser for the organization, the Festival provides significant funding for our on-going facility maintenance and operations. It has also allowed the club to traditionally maintain reasonable fee structures for our members.  In the end, however, the Board and Festival Committee were driven by the fact that - even with the accelerated adoption of effective COVID vaccines - for now, we still have concerns in placing membership and the public at risk of infection during the preparation for and hosting of the Festival.

Please stay safe and well.

Hana-Matsuri 花祭り 4/15/2018

posted Apr 15, 2018, 1:55 PM by JAClub Administrator   [ updated Apr 15, 2018, 2:36 PM ]

Hana-Matsuri is the celebration of the birth of Sakyamuni Buddha.  He was born in Lumbini's Garden which is in the southern foothills of the Himalayas.  His father was King Suddhodana of the Sakya Clan and his mother Queen Maya.  He was named Prince Siddartha and the family name was Gautama.  When he became enlightened at the age of 35, people gave him the title of Buddha, the Enlightened One, and revered him as Sakyamuni, the sage of the Sakyas.

The various rites observed during Hanamatsuri (literally Flower Festival) services are based upon the happenings at the time of Prince Siddartha's birth.  The Hanamido or miniature floral altar of bright flowers provides the setting of the beautiful Lumbini's Garden.  The statue of the baby Buddha, Tanjo-Butsu, which has his arm extended, illustrates the merits of the Buddha reaching out to all beings.  The pouring of the sweet tea on the statue, kambutsu, represents the gentle rain which fell that day in Lumbini's Garden.

Thank you to Sensei Brian Nagata for conducting the Hana-Matsuri Service.
