Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  July 6, 2006

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Minutes

There was no correction to the June minutes.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report. 

 

Acknowledgements/Announcements

1.  The Sunada Family donated $200 to the Building Fund.

2.  The Dave Uemura Family donated $200 to the Building Fund.

3.  Edward Otake donated $50 to Shinwakai. 

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:  
   

     JARCC - Sam Sunada

  • No report. 

   Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Obon service will be on Tuesday 7/25 at 7:30 p.m.  The speaker will be Rev. Carol Himaka.  Set-up will be on Tues. 7/24 after construction. 
   Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada
  • No report.

   

   Nippongo Gakuen - Matt Simpson
  • They are looking for a Japanese language school teacher.  Anyone interested please contact Matt Simpson. 

  • School begins on Sept. 7th.  School is accepting student applications for all levels.

   Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • No report. 

        Building Superintendent – Ted Uemura

  • Still having problems with honey bees.  Will be calling a professional exterminator.    

 

    Gardeners’ Club – No representative

  • No rep. 

 
    Ikenobo
Club - Pat Baba

  • No report.

    JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

  • On July 31st, JASEB will have their annual golf tournament at Sequoia Country Club in Oakland.

     Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

  • 4 members of the Judo Club will be attending the Jr. Olympics in San Jose this weekend. 

  Diablo Kendo Club – No representative

  • No rep.

 

   Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

  • The 22nd Annual Family Talent Night was a huge success!!  More than 130 people attended. 

  • THANK YOU to the Nippongo Gakuen, Exercise Class, Judo Club, Gardeners Club, Athletic Club, JARCC, and Diablo Athletic Club for their contributions.  Special thanks to Pat Baba, JA Club President, and Ron Onizuka, Master of Ceremony, and Muriel Wakayama, Program Designer. 

  • THANK YOU to the kitchen crew, serving crew, set-up and clean-up crew. 

  • THANK YOU to the fantastic performers:  Joanne Lin from Judo for the Koto performance, Jim Nakamura and his Ukelele Friends playing Hawaiian Song, Gardener's Club for singing popular Japanese songs, The Simpson Family for their multitude of talents, Pat Onizuka and her Halau Makana Lani Dancers, and The Exercise Class for their entertaining "Taiko" rendition which rounded out our special evening.

  • The seniors that were awarded the "80 year certificates" were:  Hiroko Baba, Minoru Satake, Kaz Kaida, Emiko Shimamoto, Edward Otake, Shizuku Tamori, Ray Morodomi, and Kaga Yamamoto.  During the last eight years including the above 8 recipients, a total of 99 "80 year certificates" have been awarded.

  • The Annual Pioneer Award was given to Emiko Shimada for her dedicated energy and service during her life and her long association with the Diablo JA Club and JARCC. 

  • July is Bingo month.

  • August - no meeting.

  • September - normal schedule resumes

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

  • Construction starts on July 10th.  It is scheduled every Mon. and Wed. nights from 6-9 p.m.  Bring gloves and small hand tools to help. 

  • Obon practice begins 7/12 at 7 p.m.  Practice will be every Mon. and Wed.  Everyone is welcome.  Dances will be taught.  Yukatas are available if needed.

  • There will be no press dinner this year.  Instead a "Media Blitz" of advertisement in the newspaper, on the radio, and our own Ron Onizuka will be on TV (Comcast).

  • The Crafts Booth is looking for any "craft items" to sell at the booth.

    

 

    Membership Chairperson – No Representative


 

  Old Business -

  • Question re: JA Club envelopes and stationery -  Thanks to Sharon Akiyama and Dave Uemura for finding them.
