Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  June 7, 2006

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Minutes

There was no correction to the May minutes.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report. 

 

Acknowledgements/Announcements

1.  The Exercise Club donated $200 to the Building Fund. 

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:  
   

     JARCC - Sam Sunada

  • New floors are to be installed in the kitchen.  This project is planned to be completed before the summer festival.

  • Lights still to be installed in the gym.

   Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Meetings on 6/11 and 6/18 to work on craft projects for the Summer Festival.
  • Obon service will be on Tuesday 7/25 at 7:30 p.m.  The speaker will be Rev. Carol Himaka.
  • Sunday services will resume on Sept. 10.
   Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada
  • No report.

    JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

  • On July 31st, JASEB will have their annual golf tournament at Sequoia Country Club in Oakland.

    Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

  • May 31 was the State Championship in San Jose.  Derek Lin took 1st in the Novice Division.
  • June 4th was the Bay Isle Tournament in Alameda.  Scott Hisaka and Toshi Kanazawa took 1st, Brandon Ikeda, Sydney Kanazawa and Derek Lin took 2nd, and Ryan Hisaka and Megan Ikeda took 3rd.  Congratulations to all our competitors!
 
   Nippongo Gakuen - Matt Simpson
  • Copies of the yearbook are available for any nominal donation!

  • School is out for the summer.  It will resume the weekend after Labor Day.

   Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • Basketball sign-ups were on Friday June 2nd.  If you were unable to attend and are still interested, please contact Dave Uemura. 
  • The JA Club president spoke at the basketball sign-ups to all new families signing up to educate them on the responsibilities required for JA Club members. 

        Building Superintendent – Ted Uemura

  • The bathroom lights in the gym are being left on.  PLEASE be more careful to ensure all lights are off when leaving the building.  

  • The lights in the downstairs classroom were left on last weekend.  Again, please be more careful.  Turn off the air conditioning as well.

    Diablo Kendo Club – Judith Aono for

  • The club practices on Sundays at 6 p.m.

 

   Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

  • May 20th was Bingo at their regular meeting.

  • On June 24th is the 22nd annual Family Talent Night.  This evening honors seniors 80 yrs and older. Set up for this event will take place on Friday 6/23 at 7:00 p.m.  Much manpower is needed , so please come out to help set up.

  • Talent application are due by June 14th.

  • July 15th is the next scheduled activity - Bingo.

 

   Taiko Club – No Represntative

  • Taiko is no longer practicing at the JA Club and they have turned in their keys to the building. 

 

     Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

  • Construction starts on July 10th.  It takes place every Mon. and Wed. night from 6-9:00 p.m.  Bring gloves and small hand tools to help.

  • Raffle tickets have been printed and will be distributed soon.

  • Obon practice begins July 12th at 7:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to join.  Dances will be taught.  Yukatas are available if needed. 

 

    Gardeners’ Club – Judith Aono
  • The annual clean-up of the grounds was done in May.  THANK YOU so much for the great job.

  Old Business -

  • Graduation dinner was excellent and enjoyed by all.  Thank you to the Kinoshita family, Bea and Carlene Tamichi, Sharon Akiyama, Louise Lue and Karen Sakata for all their efforts to make it a wonderful evening.

  • Four scholarships were awarded:  they were given to Curtis Uemura, Kurt Sakata, Naomi Zeismer, and Michael Schneider.
