Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  April 5, 2006

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:33 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Minutes

There was no correction to the March minutes.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer was not present to give the treasurer’s report. 

 

Acknowledgements/Announcements

1.      The Inokuchi family donated $200.00 to the building fund.  They thank us for the use of the facility for their memorial service.

2.      The Taiko Club donated $1,000.00 to the building fund.

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:  
   

     JARCC - Sam Sunada

  • New lights will be installed in the gym.

   Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Hanamatsuri is on April 9th at 10:00 am. Brian Nagata will be residing. The entire service will be in English.
   Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada
  • No report.
      Judo Club – Leslie Hisaka
  • It was announced that the judo mats and canvas used by the judo club had small muddy footprints on them due to children climbing on them in the storage closet.  PLEASE do not allow your children to climb on the equipment.
  • Two contestants placed at the Cupertino judo tourney on March 5th.  Congratulations to Ryan Hisaka who placed first and Derek Lin who placed third.

 

   Nippongo Gakuen - Ron Onizuka
  • No report.

   Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • The basketball season is technically over; however some teams continue to play in tournaments.
  • Basketball sign-ups for next year will take place on Friday June 2nd from 6-8:00 p.m.

        Building Superintendent – Ted Uemura

  • The side door in the gym is broken.  Please do not use until the hinge is repaired!

    Diablo Kendo Club – Judith Aono for

   Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

  • On March 26th the annual event for the Shinnenkai at SACBC enjoyed excellent entertainment and lunch.

  • The next regular meeting will be on April 15th at 1 p.m.  The topic will be "Socialization and Interaction".

    Gardeners’ Club – Akiyamasan
  • On May 7th from 8 a.m.-noon, the club will be performing a general clean-up and pruning of the grounds.  They have graciously offered anyone interested in learning how to do proper pruning to come out and get a lesson.

   Taiko Club – Susan Nishizaka & Kathy Fujisaka

  •     No report

 

     Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

  • They continue to be in the planning stages for the 50th Anniversary Summer Festival.  They meet with the chicken cooking committee this month. 

     Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba
  • No report.

 

     Membership Chairperson – Judith Aono for

  • No report.

   JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

  • On August 7th, JASEB will have their annual golf tournament.  Details forthcoming. 

Old Business - None

 

New Business

  • The annual JA Club College Scholarship applications are available now. 

  • Awards will be based on:  JA club activities, community activities.  The scholarship is in essay format.  Letters of recommendation, including one from a JA member who can write about the applicant's involvement in the JA club.  Applicants must have been an active member of the JA Club for a minimum of the last 3 years.  Final deadline is May 22nd.

  • Applications are available by calling or emailing Karen Sakata at 925-837-9216 or sakatak@mdusd.k12.ca.us .

  • Both the Union Bank and the Athletic Club will be donating $500 each towards the Scholarship Fund.  The Graduation Dinner will take place on Sunday, June 4th.
