Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  March 1, 2006

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:31 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Minutes

There was no correction to the February minutes.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report.  There was no further discussion and the report was approved.

 

Acknowledgements/Announcements:

1.      Ikenobo club donated $200.00 to the building fund.

2.      Gakuen club donated $500.00 to the building fund.

3.      Sophia Goto donated $199.92 as part of a United Way matching fund.

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:  
   
     JARCC - Sam Sunada
  • If you use the kitchen, PLEASE clean up after yourselves!  (including the sinks which have been found quite dirty).  If you use the kitchen towels, please take them home to wash and then bring them back!
  • There are plans to re-grout the kitchen floor in addition to replacing the linoleum in the hallway.
      Judo Club – Leslie Hisaka
  • Students competed in the 58th annual San Jose Buddhist Judo tourney on February 12th at San Jose State. Congratulations to Derek Lin who placed 1st, Robert Buhnerkempe and Ryan Hisaka who each placed 3rd.

 

      Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama
  • Hanamatsuri is on April 9th, .  Brian Nagata will be residing. Lunch to follow service.

     Jr. YBA – Sharon Akiyama

  • Thank you to all who attended the udon feed.  It was a successful fundraiser.  Everyone enjoyed the delicious udon.  Thank you to the following donors:

   Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

  •  Thank you to the Jr. YBA who helped out at the Bingo on February 18th

  • On March 26th at SACBC the annual event for the Shinnenkai expects 500 attendees from Northern Calif. There will be 18 people from our Shinwakai attending.

  • The next regular meeting will be on April 15th which is the third Saturday of the month

     Nippongo Gakuen - Ron Onizuka
  • It was requested that those using the gym on Friday nights clean-up after themselves as the gym on Sat. mornings has been found to be quite messy when Japanese school comes in on Sat. morning.

  • There are openings for the school.  For info. Please visit the website at diablonippongakuen.org

  • Kodomono-hi is on March 18th from 9-noon.  This would be a good chance to come and check out the school.

   Taiko Club – Susan Nishizaka & Kathy Fujisaka

     Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

  • They continue to be in the planning stages for the 50th Anniversary Summer Festival.  They have had meetings with the raffle ticket group to get tickets ordered, and have also met to update the roster.  The roster for work duties will be posted on the JA club website.

 

     Athletic Club – Dave Uemura
  • Annual Shaughnessy tournament is March 5th-6th! Good luck to the B1 and C silver boys who will be competing!

        Building Superintendent – Ted Uemura

  • The bathroom lights continue to be found left on over-night! PLEASE be more careful when you are locking up the JA club.

 

     Membership Chairperson – Judith Aono for

  • The membership roster and Bylaws were sent out by the exercise class. Thank you for all the hard work. If there are any corrections to be made to the roster, please contact Mike Espinosa at diablojanews@astound.net.

  • It was suggested that a Board member speak with any new members who join the Athletic club (and ALL the clubs) to educate them prior to joining of the responsibilities that are required of them.

     Gardeners’ Club –

     Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

  • There are 3 new members in the club this year.  This club meets the first and third Tues. of the month at 7:00 pm.  If interested in joining, please contact Pat Bab

      JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

  • Thank you to the organization for supporting the JASEB Crab feed by purchasing four tickets to the event. Yukio & Keiko Kitagawa as well as Pat Baba and Sharon Akiyama enjoyed attending the dinner.  It was a very successful event.

  • The senior groups will be meeting with the Rossmoor seniors from 10-2 on March 3rd

New Business

  • The Membership Initiation/membership form will be revised to reflect that the fees are "non-refundable".

  • If any club uses the folding chairs in the gym, PLEASE put them back on the racks in an orderly fashion.

  • There was a discussion to change the bylaws to reflect that all initiation/annual fees are non-refundable, so there will be no confusion in the future.  The update to the bylaws will be taken up at another meeting.
