Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  Jan. 7, 2007

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:40 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Previous Minutes

Gene Tamura’s name is actually spelled “Jene.”  Our apologies.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report. 

 

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

     Thank you to the following families for their generous donations:

1.  $100 donation received from Dave and Jenifer Uemura to the building fund.

2.  $250 donation received from Dan and Sue Uemura to the building fund.

3.  $250 donation received from Dean and Viola Uemura to the building fund.

4.  $590 donated to the JARCC from Nippongo Gakuen.

JARCC - Sam Sunada

·         No report.

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Hanamatsuri on Sunday April 8th.   Michael Endo will be the speaker.
  • Fred Nitta scholarship fund available for high school seniors.  Contact Sharon Akiyama for application.

Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada

  • ”All You Can Eat” Udon Feed will be on Sunday, Feb 25th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Tickets for adults are $6.00 preorder or $7.00 at the door. Seniors and children 10 or under are $5.00 preorder or $6.00 at the door. Take out is $3.00 each.  You can get your tickets from any Jr. YBA member or contact Sam Sunada.

Nippongo Gakuen – Matt Simpson

  • Oshogatsu -New Years party was successful.

Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • Shaughnessy  Dinner, Athletic Club’s biggest fundraiser is on March 4th.      $7.50 per chicken dinner.  Order forms at the JA Club or on the website.
  • New backboards to be installed this   weekend!

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

 

  • No report.    

Gardeners’ Club – No Rep

Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • New Years party was enjoyed by all.

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         There is a crab feed at the Oakland Cultural Center on Feb. 11th.  Tickets are on sale for $25.00 and will be $30.00 at  the door. Raffle tickets also on sale.  See Yukio for either.

 

   Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

  • A group will be attending the San Jose Buddhist Sensei Memorial at San Jose State on February 11th .  Good luck to all participants.

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Installation of JA Club officers was held on January 15th at Suwa’s restaurant.  There were approximately 70 people in attendance.  Special thanks to the Exercise Class for helping with this event along with the Kendo Club.  Extra special thanks to Bea Tamichi for making the beautiful corsages.  Also, thanks to the Suwa’s, the food was fantastic, as always.
  • Congratulations to Adriene Aono who just returned from Taiwan where she represented the United States in a Kendo tournament.

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • Regular mtg. is on the third Saturday of the month.  They will be having Bingo on 2/17, and the JrYBA will be helping the seniors.
  • On March 24th at SACBC, the annual Shinnenkai of Northern California will meet to celebrate New Years.

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • Meetings will start up shortly. 

   

   Membership Chairperson – Mike Espinosa

  Old Business

 

  • All clubs are to turn in waivers to Pat Baba by the 1st Wed of March or put in the binder in the office.
