Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

President Sharon Akiyama called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

Treasurer’s ReportDavid Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report

 

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

1.      Donation to building fund for $200.00 from Ken and Pat Baba.

2.      Donation from the Yamamoto family for $200.00 in memory of Sandi Nakashima.

3.      Donation from the Ajari family for $450.00 in memory of Charlie Ajari.

4.      Donation to the building fund for $200.00 from the Ikenobo Club.

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

JARCC – Sam Sunada

·         In the process of repairing the roof.  Hopefully will be done in 1 week.

·         Sidewalk repairs on Treat Boulevard between Oak Grove and San Simeon being done by the city beginning 12/8 from 8 A.M. -- 5 P.M Recording Secretary- Bob Okubo

·         Multi-purpose room does not have heat!  Bob Okubo reported that they are trying to get repairs done.

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Mochi Sale: Sunday December 14th Orders must be placed by December 8th.
  • Last service of the year is this Saturday, December 6th at 5:30 P.M.  with Reverend Yamaoka presiding.

Jr. YBA – Sharon Akiyama

  • No report

 

Nippongo Gakuen – Yale Kofman/Sandi Svoboda/Arlene Nielsen

  • Holiday Party this Sunday, December 7th from 5:00 P.M.  It is requested that all affiliated clubs bring an ornament to put on the tree with the club’s name on it.  The Gakuen is hoping to create a community tree and use the ornaments year after year.                                                                                
  • No classes on December 27th and January 3rd.  Class resumes on January 10th.

Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

·         Basketball games begin this week-end.

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

·         JA Hall will be closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day to allow for work to be done.  All classes should be cancelled. Contact Jon Yokoyama by e-mail if you must enter.  If you can come help clean-up, please contact Jon. Tools/supplies will be provided. Thank you!

Gardeners’ Club – Judith Aono

  • No report.

Ikenobo Club – Pat Baba

  • They will have a special class on December 30th  to make New Year’s floral arrangements.

 

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         No report.

 

Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

 

  • New students will be accepted the first Thursday in January for kids 6 years. and up.  Class begins at 6:30 P.M

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Nor Cal Kendo Federation recently had promotion exams.  Kevin Meyer passed the exam for his 1 Kyu (brown belt) and Satoshi Yuki passed his test for 1 Dan (1st degree black belt) Congrats!
  • No practice this week-end due to the Holiday Party.

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • Looking forward to the Holiday Party.  This will count as their December meeting.
  • Next meeting is January 17th at 1 P.M. (New Year’s potluck lunch.

 

 

   Diablo Taiko Club – Jiro Hess

 

  • The group played at the Clayton Library on November 16th.  It was reported that this was their first performance outside the JA Club.  All went well.

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • No report.

 

   Membership Chairperson – Sam Sunada

 

  • Athletic Club has 11 players listed on rosters that are NOT JA Club members.
  • Gardner’s Club has 6 people listed that are NOT members.
  • 53 families did not renew according to the 07-08 roster.
  • The goal is to get a new roster out by the end of January to club representatives.

 

 

 

 

  Old Business

 

·        Installation dinner at Suwa’s on Monday, January 19th.   Please RSVP to Mike Espinosa.

·        (Reservations requested by January 11, 2009.)

·        It would be great if all groups were represented at this event.

  New Business

  • On behalf of the Clayton Library, many folks at the JA Club were thanked for participating in their series on the Internment camps.  More than 400 people attended.  Thank you to Arlene Nielsen for organizing such a wonderful event
  • No meeting in January due to the Installation Dinner
