Minutes of the J.A. Meeting
Meeting Date:  Oct. 1, 2008 President Sharon Akiyama called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.	Corrections/Additions to Previous Minutes No corrections.
Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report.  Acknowledgements/Announcements 1. Donation in Memory of Peter Hirano to the building fund for $50.00 from Dorothy Stockwell 2. Donation in Memory of Peter Hirano for $100.00 from the Dai Ichi Golf Club 3. Donation in memory of Peter Hirano to the building fund for $100.00 from Mr. and Mrs. Ed Phillips
Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:
JARCC – Sam Sunada · Looking into getting the roof over the kitchen fixed. · Looking to replace the outside toilets · Karaoke contest at the Aki Matsuri festival for anyone over 15 years old to be held on October 4^th at 3 P.M.. at the Peace Plaza Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama First Saturday service of the new school year will be held on October 4^th at 5:30 P.M. Reverend Abiko will be the officiating minister. Potluck dinner after the service. Everyone is invited to attend. Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada – No report Nippongo Gakuen – Yale Kaufman and Sandi Svoboda School has begun and is going well. 65 students are currently enrolled. They will have a fire drill this Saturday to insure that everyone is aware how to evacuate the building. Arlene Nielson requested $1500.00 to use for the Holiday Party. (The same amount was requested last year.)The amount was approved. Athletic Club – Dave Uemura · Basketball tournament will be held October 18th-19th at Tice. Practices will start once approval has been received by the JARCC. Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama · No report. Gardeners’ Club – Judith Aono · No report. Ikenobo Club – Pat Baba No report. JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa · No report. Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka Students attended the East Bay Judo Tournament in El Cerrito on Sept. 21^st. Ryan Hisaka placed first. Sydney Kanazawa and Kalene Leong placed third. Congratulations! Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa No report.	Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa Shinwakai will meet on the 3^rd Saturday of the month for Bingo at 1 P.M. Diablo Taiko Club – Susan Nishizaka No report. Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka Appreciation dinner is on October 11^th from 5:30 P.M. If you worked Summer Festival, then you are welcome to attend. Food will be from Rocco’s in Walnut Creek They would like to recognize the following families that sold more than 10 raffle books: Sterling and Sonoe Hum Dan and Sue Uemura Laura Takeuchi Kei and Show Sugaoka Bob and Claudia Tamori Earl and Cynthia Nakahara Derrick and Louise Lue Ron and Denise Huey Bill and Sandi Svoboda There were 3 clubs that had 100% of members that purchased raffle tickets: Buddhist Church, Ikenobo and Exercise. Thank you and Congratulations!    Membership Chairperson – Sam Sunada Membership deadline is October 31st. All clubs are asked to turn in their rosters to Sam Sunada, as well as the waivers. Old Business · Need the Statement of Info to register the JA Club with the State of California. This is due October 10^th. New Business A folding Ping-pong table has been offered to anyone at the JA Club. If interested, please contact Mike Espinosa by October 31^st Clayton Library: October 20th-Nov 19^th is hosting a month of Japanese American events. Please look at the JA club website for details JARCC had a discussion of these items that need to be addressed by their next meeting on October 22^nd: at 7:30 P.M. up the area in the room with the trophy case, and use of the computers currently stored in the room. The gakuen will respond accordingly
