Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:   April 2, 2008

President Sharon Akiyama called the meeting to order at 7:36 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Previous Minutes

The previous month’s meeting was on March 5th, not March 3rd as reported.

Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report. 

 

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

1.      $300.00 donation to the building fund received from the family of Aya Kodama.

 

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

JARCC – Sam Sunada

  • Fire alarm test done.  Plan to do semi-annual testing. 

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Hanamatsuri service will be held Sunday, 4/13 with Reverend Ron Kobata.  Service begins at 10 A.M.  Lunch will be served after the service.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Set-up on Sat 4/12 at 1 P.M.

Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada

  • No report. 

Nippongo Gakuen – Sandi Svoboda

  • Spring break last week.
  • Kodomo No Hi (Children’s Day) was on 3/15.  The kids had a great time.
  • General mtg. on 5/12 for election of next year’s board.
  • The last day of school for Gakuen is 5/17.

Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

·         Basketball season is over.  A few teams still practicing for tournaments.

·         Signups for next year is Friday June 6th at 6 p.m.

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

·         Thank you to Ken Baba for fixing the tile floor in the kitchen.

·         Bees are coming back.  Please be aware.  The bee exterminator has been contacted

Gardeners’ Club – Hiroshi Akiyama

·         The annual JA club clean-up will take place on Mother’s Day.  They plan to donate a new cherry tree to replace a dead one.  Thank you!

Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • No report. 

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         Yukio has missed the last five meetings due to conflicts and has requested that a new Diablo representative be found to take his place.  Meetings are generally held on the 3rd Monday of the month from 7pm in Berkeley.

·         JASEB is looking for a new Executive Director.  This is a paid salary position.

 

   Judo Club - Conrad Hisaka

 

  • Ryan Hisaka placed 3rd at the Cupertino Judo tournament on February 10th. Congratulations!

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa

 

  • No report.

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • The Shinenkai group had their annual mtg. at SACBC last week.   There were 400 people in attendance from all over Northern California! It was a nice event with great food and entertainment.
  • At the 4/19: mtg., Diablo Taiko will be providing entertainment with audience participation.
  • May 19th is Bingo Day.
  • Family Talent night has been scheduled for June 28th at 6 P.M.

 

 

   Diablo Taiko Club – Peter De Genero

 

  • Planning and practicing for the participation at the Shinwakai event.

 

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • Summer Festival is Sat.-Sun August 9th and 10th.
  • The program has been set.
  • Finalizing the poster design.

   

 

  Membership Chairperson – Sam Sunada

 

  • The membership roster has been finalized.

 

  Old Business

 

  • JA Scholarship applications are now available in foyer.
  • Any clubs that have middle school, high school or college graduates this year should submit their names ASAP to Sharon Akiyama.  The dinner will be held on Sunday June 1st at Zio Fraedo’s.

  New Business

 

·        Regarding Graduation Dinner:  Thank you to Ron Onizuka for being the M.C.  There will be a change in the speaker for the event.
