Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

President Sharon Akiyama called the meeting to order at 7:32 PM.

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

     Thank you to the following families and groups for their generous donations:

1.      Gakuen donated $500.00 to the building fund.

2.      Diablo Taiko donated $200.00 to the building fund.

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

JARCC – Sam Sunada

·         The leak in the kitchen in December was due to the water heater.  This was replaced.  Thank you to Stacy Seiki and Ted Uemura for getting the job done.

·         The next mtg. is 2/27.  Anything to be submitted needs to be sent to Sam Sunada, president, at  sunada1@comcast.net.

·         The copy machine in the office was found to be turned off for no known reason.  If you find problems with the copier, please contact Judith Aono (her contact information is posted in the office).   There will continue to be 2 copiers in the office until the old one no longer works.

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Installation will be on 2/17.  Reverend Taniguchi to preside.

Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada

  • No report. 

 

 

 

 

Nippongo Gakuen – David Zeismer

  • The club reports they are checking all the doors when they use the facility.
  • Oshogatsu went well.
  • Kodomo No Hi is coming up.

Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

·         Shaughnessy on March 2-3 at Ygnacio Valley High School.  Bento boxes will be sold.  Please look for the fliers on the board and on the website.

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

·         ALL clubs that use the facility need to check all the doors at the JA club before you leave; not just the door you came in.

·         Locks to be changed in March. Jon will coordinate the distribution of new keys.

·         Cars have been broken into during basketball.  Please lock your cars and do not leave valuables in view.

·         Thank you to David and Alan Kinoshita, Jeffrey Sunada, and Nerisa and Rique Yokoyama…for painting the new lines in the gym.  They look great.

Gardeners’ Club – Judith Aono

·         No report.

Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • They had their annual New Year’s party last Sunday.  It was enjoyed by all. 

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         Annual Crab Feed 2/10 in Oakland.  It was requested that 2 tickets be purchased for the President, 1 door prize for $25.00 and 12 dozen cookies for the event.  This was approved.

   Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

 

  • No report. 

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Judith Aono

 

  • No report.

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • Mtg. and Bingo on 2/16 at the JA club.  Anyone willing to donate prizes are very welcome.
  • Shinenkai: Seniors from Northern California will meet on 3/29 9:30-3p.m. at SACBC in Union City.  Bus will leave from the JA club.
  • April 19th is the next mtg.  They are hoping to have the Diablo taiko group perform.

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • Planning has begun.
  • All members are expected to help August 9-10.

   

   Diablo Taiko Club – Susan Nishizaka

 

  • Accepting new students for the beginning class on Monday’s from 7:30-8:30.  Contact Susan at sueknish@aol.com for info.
  • Susan was thanked by Sharon for loaning a drum to Ayers Elementary School for their unit on Japan.  The principal (Karen Sakata) gave a demo.

 

 

 

  Membership Chairperson – Sam Sunada

 

  • Thank you to Pat Baba and Sharon Akiyama for sending out the membership info.  The goal is to have a draft of the directory done at the end of February and the festival rosters out much earlier for 2008.

 

  Old Business

 

  • Installation Dinner at Suwas was enjoyed by all. Thank you to Kendo Club for organizing, Bea Tamichi for doing the flowers, and all that donated raffle prizes.  And thank you for all the good singing by our club members.

  New Business

 

·        Thank you to Ted Uemura for fixing the sump pump in the back.  It was quite a job.

·        A teacher in Clayton is looking for a high school student to tutor a Japanese speaking student English.  Please contact Sharon Akiyama if you are interested.
