Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  Dec 5, 2007

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:40 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Previous Minutes

Jon Kubokawa gave the report for Gakuen last month.  They are still looking for a 6 ft. artificial tree.

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

     Thank you to the following families and groups for their generous donations:

1.      Ikenobo Club donated $200.00 to the building fund.

2.      Kendo Club donated $200.00 to the building fund.

3.      Nippongo Gakuen donated $500 to the building fund.

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

JARCC – Sam Sunada

·         Toilet replacement to be done by Friday 12/7.

·         New deck in the back done by Joshua Zeismer and his Eagle Scout group. Thank you! Thank you also to Jon Yokoyama for supervising.

·         Looking into replacement of the gym floor.  This will be a costly endeavor.

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Mochitsuki was held on 12/16.  Thanks to all for coming out to support our annual fundraiser.  Over 1,100 lbs of mochi (komochi, an mochi and okasane) were produced and sold (out!).
  • Church to resume 1/6/08.

Jr. YBA – Sharon Akiyama

  • No report. 

Nippongo Gakuen – No Representative

·        The 2007 Holiday party was a great success.  Over 300 people attended.  Special thanks to Arlene Kikkawa-Neilsen and Koto Suzuki for co-chairing this year’s event.

Athletic Club – No Representative

Building Superintendent – No Rep.

Gardeners’ Club – No Representative

 

 

Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • No report. 

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         Looking for a new Representative for 2008.  The meetings are held the 3rd Monday of the Month in Berkeley.

 

Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

 

  • Palo Alto Judo tournament November 11th:  Congrats to Michael Sakaida who placed 1st, Ryan Hisaka and Sydney Kanazawa who placed 2nd, and Toshi Kanazawa who placed third. 
  • San Francisco City College tournament December 2nd: Congrats to Megan Ikeda, Ryan Hisaka and Derek Lin who all placed first, and Sydney Kanazawa and Matthew Ota who placed third!
  • The next major tournament will take place on February 10th at San Jose Sate.  It will be the 60th Annual San Jose Buddhist Tourney.

 

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Congrats to the following members who passed their promotions;                              4 Kyu - Joshua Ziesmer
    2 Kyu - Kevin Meyer
    1 Kyu - Toshi Angevine, Lindsay Tamura, and Satoshi Yuki.

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • They had their Thanksgiving lunch on Nov. 17th that was well attended.
  • No December mtg.
  • New Years luncheon mtg: 1/19

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • On holiday hiatus.

   

   Diablo Taiko Club – No Representative

 

 

  Membership Chairperson – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Still trying to complete registration.
  • Still no roster from Gardener’s Club.

·        Installation Dinner changed to January  28 at Suwa’s.

·        Because there was NO QUORUM at the mtg to vote on the board election, the treasurer’s report and approval for the installation dinner budget, a special meeting has been called for Wed. 12/12 at 7:30.  It is imperative that all clubs have a representative in attendance.

Addendum

 

A special mtg. was called on Wed. 12/12 at 7:30 p.m. to vote on things necessary for the New Year.  There was a full quorum in attendance to allow proper voting.

1. The treasurer’s November report was accepted.

2. The Installation dinner will be on Monday Jan.28th at Suwa’s restaurant.  The budget was approved for this function.  The cost will be $30.00 for non JA club members and $15.00 for JA club members.

3. Acceptance of the nominations for the 2008 board (as listed above) was done and the new board was voted in.

Other items to report:

1.      In September, a wallet was found on the grass at the JA Hall with no identification in it.  Please contact Sandi Svoboda at 925-825-7925 if you think this wallet belongs to you.

2.      All club presidents and club members who have keys to the building/kitchen – A reminder to lock the kitchen when not in use.   Recently, personal items left in the kitchen are now missing.
