Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  Nov 7, 2007

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Previous Minutes

The Holiday party will be on Sunday, December 2nd (not Saturday).

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

     Thank you to the following families and groups for their generous donations:

1.      Judo Club donated $400.00 to the building fund.

2.      Ruri Kitabayashi sent a check for $50.00 to Shinwaikai in memory of Sam Kitabayashi.

3.      JASEB sent a thank you note for our donation of $100.00 for the calendar.

 

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

JARCC – Sam Sunada

·         Elections were completed.  The board members are as follows:  Dave Uemura, Judith Aono, Mark Goto, Ron Onizuka, Jene Tamura, Ken Baba.

·         The cabinet members are as follows:  President – Sam Sunada, Vice President – Bruce Tamura, Recording Secretary – Bob Okubo, Corresponding Secretary – Joanne Kozuki, Treasurer – Ray Tamura.

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Service on Sat. 12/1 at 5:30. The Reverend Yamaoka will be the speaker.
  • Mochitsuki will be on 12/16.  Get your orders in early.  Flyers to be in the newsletter, at JA Hall and on the website.

Jr. YBA – Sharon Akiyama

  • No report. 

 

 

 

Nippongo Gakuen – Koto Suzuki

  • The Holiday party is confirmed for Sun. 12/2 5-8 p.m.  They expect 250 people to attend.  There have been 12 gift baskets donated by corporations for the raffle.  A pre-lit tree has been donated.  The theme is a Hawaiian luau.  There will be entertainment.    

Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • No report.

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

 

  • Bathroom lights have been found ‘on’ Sunday evenings when Kendo comes to practice.  PLEASE be diligent in checking light when using our facility.  Also double- check that the back door by the kitchen is locked. 
  • If something is broken, please contact Jon immediately.

Gardeners’ Club – Judith Aono

·        A Tahoe bus trip is being planned for 11/12.  The bus leaves the JA club at 7 a.m. and returns at 9 p.m.  Call Hiroshi Akiyama or Judith Aono if interested.

Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • Their teacher Mary Matsumoto received an award from the Northern California Ikebana Ikenobo Assoc. for her outstanding teaching services for 45 years!  Congrats! 

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         The 2008 calendar is ready!  The JA club is the featured organization for the month of March.

 

  Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

 

  • Six competitors went to Sacramento for the Capitol Open on 10/7.  Congrats to Ryan Hisaka, Michael Sakaida and Sydney Kanazawa who placed first and Megan Ikeda who placed third. 
  • Three competitors went to Monterey 11/4 for the Bojuka tournament.  Congrats to all three who placed first - Ryan Hisaka, Derek Lin and Michael Sakaida.

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Promotions took place on 10/28.  The results will be posted in the next newsletter.  Practice cancelled on Dec. 2nd due to the Holiday party.

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • Nov. 17th at 1 p.m. will be the annual Thanksgiving luncheon.  There is no metting scheduled in the month of December.  The next Shinwakai meeting will be on Jan 3, 2008 for the annual New Year’s luncheon.  Also, Yukio would like to thank Sam Sunada, Sharon Akiyama for helping with last month’s Bingo meeting.

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • On holiday hiatus.

   

   Diablo Taiko Club – Jiro Hess

 

  • Friday practices are full.
  • They will have a beginner class on Monday nights in the back room at 7 p.m.
  • They had a successful workshop followed by a potluck on 10/21.  The instructor was Kasuaki Tomida. 

 

  Membership Chairperson – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Membership rush now over.  Notices will be going out in the next 2 weeks to those families that did not send in dues and who were members last year.

 

  Old Business

 

  • Doors still being left open and bathroom lights being left on.  Please be diligent if you are using the facility to check ALL door and lights before you leave.

  New Business

 

·        Installation Dinner planned for Monday, January 14, 2008 at Suwa’s.
