Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  Sept 5, 2007

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

Treasurer’s ReportDavid Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report

 

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

     Thank you to the following families and groups for their generous donations:

1.      $100 donation received from Tina Kang to the JARCC on behalf of Stacy Tamori.

2.      Athletic Club donated $2,000 to the Building Fund.

3.      $40 received from the Daniel Nakahara family.

4.      $50 donated from Ken and Pat Baba in memory of her father, John Yee.

5.      $100 received from the Mee Lee family who were members of the Kendo Club.

 

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

JARCC – Sam Sunada

·         Working on fire alarm policy and procedures. Upon completion, the procedures will be reviewed with all clubs using the facility.

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Sunday school starts 9/9.  Calvin Fujinaga will be the guest speaker for this day. The following week the children’s Sunday school classes commence.

Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada

  • No report. 

Nippongo Gakuen – Dave Zeismer

  • Sat. 9/8 is registration and the first day of classes.  There are immediate openings for students on all levels. 
  • Gakuen plans to sponsor the 2007 Holiday party on the first Sunday in December.  They requested $1250.00 to cover the expenses of gifts for the seniors, food, crafts, a x-mas tree and the raffle prizes. This amount was approved.

Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • Basketball clinic is this week-end, 9/8.
  • Practices for basketball have begun, or will begin soon.

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

 

  • No report.

Gardeners’ Club – No Rep

Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • No report.

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         They had their annual golf tourney in August.  Thank you to Sam Sunada and the Jr. YBA for helping with sign-in table.  Thank you to Wayne Shin and Jon Shindo for participating.  They took 5th place.

·         The annual walk-a-thon will take place 9/23 at the Berkeley Marina.

·         The Jaseb Calendar for 2008 is being worked on. Yukio submitted pictures from the JA club for consideration. He requested $100.00 donation to support the JASEB calendar

 

  Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

 

  • Sign-ups for the new season take place Thurs 9/6 at 6:30 p.m.

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa

 

  • Chikara Yuki from the Kendo club made 100+ aprons for the JA club as part of his boy scout Eagle project.  They will be used for Summer Festival.Thank you!

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • Thank you to Sam Sunada and Sharon Akiyama for covering in his absence at the July 21st meeting.  The Junior YBA also helped with the Bingo event.
    Yukio was attending his mother’s 94th Birthday party.
  • At the Sept. 15th mtg, they will have ochazuke.  Members to provide pickled vegetables and dessert. Shinwaikai provides the tea and rice.
  • The October meeting. will be their regular bingo meeting.

 

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • Post-festival meeting takes place next week on 9/12 at 7:30 pm.
  • Festival appreciation dinner scheduled for 10/13.

   

   Diablo Taiko Club – Kathie Fujisaki

 

  • Due to the number of Taiko drums and space availability, they are not taking any new members as they are already full.

 

  Membership Chairperson – Mike Espinosa

 

  • This is renewal season.  A senior is considered 70 years of age (as of 1/07). Seniors who do not have to pay membership dues must still submit a membership form to Mike Espinosa.
  • All clubs are to submit rosters by November 1st

 

  Old Business

 

  • None.

  New Business

 

·        Muriel  Wakayama requested the JA club have a media room: ie: T.V., DVD player and projector so that senior groups/large groups could watch Asian movies together.  She is to research cost and present at next month’s meeting.
