Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

     Thank you to the following families for their generous donations:

1.  $250 donation received from the California Bank and Trust to the JA Club for Scholarship Fund.

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

JARCC – Bob Okubo

·         The new floors have been installed.  Those with lockers are now able to put your things back into them.

·         New lights in the gym were installed.  Thank you to Jon Yokoyama.

·         The old fire detectors were replaced with new ones.

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Thank you to all who attended Hanamatsuri on Sunday April 8.
  • Next Saturday service is on Sat. May 5th .
  • Last Sat. service is June 2nd at 5:30 pm.
  • Obon Service is on July 24th at 7:30 p.m.

 

Jr. YBA – Sharon Akiyama

  • No report. 

Nippongo Gakuen – Dave Zeismer

  • It is requested again that the raffle tickets for the summer festival be printed early so they can be distributed to their students before school is out on May 19th. 
  • Three students are graduating.
  • Looking for one new teacher for next year
  • Openings for new students next year.

Athletic Club – Sharon Akiyama

  • Basketball sign-ups for next year take place on Friday June 1st at 6-8 p.m.
  • Adult woman’s basketball began - started 3 weeks ago on Wed. 7:30-9:30p.m.  All welcome and no experience necessary.  Lots of fun to be had by all!.

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

 

  • Thank you to Bruce Tamura for use of the scissor lift.
  • Thank you to Ken Baba and Bob Okubo for getting the floors installed.
  • Thank you to all that cleared out their lockers.
  • Thank you to Ted Uemura and Jon Yokoyama for replacing the lights.
  • The side door in the gym was left open on Tuesday night.  PLEASE check all doors before leaving the facility.
  • Please be aware there continues to be a BEE problem in the gym.

Gardeners’ Club – Judith Aono

·        The Reno bus trip is filling up fast. If interested, please  call Judith Aono at 689-2083.

·        The semi-annual clean up of the grounds will take place on Sunday 5/6.

Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • No report.

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         They will have their annual golf tournament on August 6th.

·         The annual walk-a-thon will take place 9/27.

 

  Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

 

  • Congratulations to Ryan Hisaka, Derek Lin  and Sydney Kanazawa who placed first, Megan Ikeda who placed 2nd, and Michael Sakaida who placed 3rd at the Okubo Judo tournament in Sacramento on Sunday April 29th.

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Judith Aono

 

  • No report.

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • The next mtg. is 5/19.  There will also be bingo.
  • Family Talent Night will take place on Saturday June 23rd at 6 p.m.  All clubs are to supply Talent for this very fun evening.  Please submit applications for talent to Yukio by 6/13 so the program can be made up.
  • Committee mtg. for talent night will take place after the June JA club mtg. at approx. 8:15 p.m

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • Working on finalizing the printing of the raffle tickets, posters etc.
  • All clubs to send Ron their updated members list.
  • Construction begins Monday July 9th 7-9 p.m. Every Monday and Wed. night there after 7-9 p.m.  The week before festival construction takes place every night.

   

   Membership Chairperson – Mike Espinosa

   Scholarship – Sharon Akiyama

 

  • Deadline for application is 5/21.  All high school seniors are encouraged to apply.  Applications on the web or in the lobby of the JA club
  • Graduation Dinner Reservation form

 

  Old Business

 

  • Journey to Tanforan takes place Sat. June 2nd.  Contact Teresa Ono at (415) 567-5505 or John Takeuchi at (925) 939-4794.
  • There are more than 10 families who are interested in starting a new taiko club.  An organizational mtg. will now take place to work out the necessary details to request from the JARCC to become a new club

  New Business

 

·         The “journey to Tanforan” will take place on Sat. June 2, 2007 at 10 a.m. to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the opening of the Tanforan Assembly Center.

·         Plans are underway to start up a new JA club Taiko club.  If you are interested in learning this ancient Japanese art form, please contact Clare “jiro” Hess at (510) 912-7591 or taikojiro@mac.com or Susan Nishizaka at (510) 758-6055 or sueknishi@aol.com.  They would like to gather a list of interested parties then schedule a planning mtg.  All ages are welcome.

·         REMINDER:  All affiliated clubs are required to send a representative to each JA club mtg!!!!!!!!!!!!  Meeting. takes place the first Wed. of the month at 7:30 p.m. Clubs will be FINED if a representative is not present.
