Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  April 4, 2007

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

 Acknowledgements/Announcements

     Thank you to the following families for their generous donations:

1.  $200 donation received from the Tanji family in memory of their father.

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

JARCC - Sam Sunada

·         Sam Sunada represented the JA club and attended Fukuji Tanji’s funeral at the Berkeley church.  Mr. Tanji was a long-time JA Club member and even after he moved to Southern California, he would return each year to work at our summer festival.

·         New linoleum is to be installed by the end of this month.  All affiliated club need to remove their items from their lockers by April 21st.  The work will be done the week of 4/23-4/27.  Once the new floors are in, then you may return your things into the lockers.  Thank you for your cooperation.

·         Any affiliated club wishing to use the JA club facility must submit their request in writing to Sam Sunada.

Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Hanamatsuri on Sunday April 8th.   Service is at 10:00am.  Michael Endo from Oakland will be the speaker.  Lunch will be served after the service.
  • Next Saturday service is on Sat. May 5th .
  • Last Sat. service is June 2nd .
  • Obon Service is on July 24th at 7:30 p.m.

 

 

Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada

  • No report. 

Nippongo Gakuen – Dave Zeismer

  • It is requested that the raffle tickets for the summer festival be printed early so they can be distributed to their students’ families before school is out on May 20th.. 
  • The JA club and JARCC president plan to attend their next board mtg..

Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • Basketball season is formally over.  A few teams are still practicing.
  • Basketball sign-ups for next year take place on Friday June 1st at 6 p.m.
  • Adult woman’s basketball begins this Wed. April 11th  7:30-9:30 pm

Building Superintendent – Jon Yokoyama

 

  • On 4/23 the new lights and smoke detectors for the gym will be installed.
  • Please be aware there continues to be a BEE problem in the gym.    

Gardeners’ Club – Judith Aono

·        The Reno bus trip has been deferred until May 20th.  All are welcome to attend this fun one day trip.  For more info, call Judith Aono at 689-2083.

·        The semi-annual clean up of the grounds will take place on Sunday 5/6.

Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • No report.

 

JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         They will have their annual golf tourney in August.

·         The annual Shinnenkai mtg. took place with 400 in attendance.

 

  Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

 

  • Congratulations Derek Lin who placed first, Sydney Kanazawa who placed 2nd, and Megan Ikeda who placed 3rd at the Annual Bay Isle judo Tournament in Alameda on March 31st

 

Diablo Kendo Club – Judith Aono

 

  • No report.

 

Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • The April mtg. is on Saturday the 21st.
  • Family Talent Night will take place on Saturday June 23rd at 6 p.m.  All clubs are to supply Talent for this very fun evening.  Please start planning early!

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • Planning meetings have begun.  They are presently planning the posters and ticket design

   Scholarship – Sharon Akiyama

 

  • Applications are now being accepted.  The deadline is 5/27/07.  This is open to High School graduates and Jr. College graduates.  All applicants must be active JA club members for the past 3 years.  Contact Karen Sakata with questions at (925) 837-9216 or email at sakatak@mdusd,k12.ca.us

  New Business

 

·         The “journey to Tanforan” will take place on Sat. June 2, 2007 at 10 a.m. to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the opening of the Tanforan Assembly Center.

·         Plans are underway to start up a new JA club Taiko club.  If you are interested in learning this ancient Japanese art form, please contact Clare “jiro” Hess at (510) 912-7591 or taikojiro@mac.com or Susan Nishizaka at (510) 758-6055 or sueknishi@aol.com.  They would like to gather a list of interested parties then schedule a planning mtg.  All ages are welcome.

·         REMINDER:  All affiliated clubs are required to send a representative to each JA club meeting!!!!!!!!!!!!  Meeting takes place the first Wed. of each month at 7:30 p.m.
