Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  Dec. 6, 2006

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Minutes

Sam Sunada is president of the JARCC and Gene Tamura is one of the board members of JARCC.

 Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report. 

 

   Acknowledgements/Announcements

1.   A special ‘Thank you’ to the following who donated to the Holiday party:

            Diablo Oriental Foods, Jo’s Sushi Bar, Miraku Restaurant, Suwa Restaurant, The Great Wall

            Restaurant, Rocco’s Pizzeria, Safeway Stores, Starbucks Coffee, Sugi Restaurant and  

      Trader Joe’s.

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

     JARCC - Sam Sunada

·         Several doors have been found open.  PLEASE know how important it is for every group at the JA club to check the doors, bathrooms, and all the lights before leaving the facility.  Check the door handles as they may appear locked, but may not be secured.  This is an ongoing problem!

·         Sam has not received building use requests from any clubs except Athletic club and Gaukuen for the coming year.  All groups need to forward their requests to him by the next JARCC meeting on 12/13.

·         The current cabinet officers are as follows: President - Sam Sunada, V.P. - Bruce Tamura, Sunday School Superintendent - Sharon Akiyama,  Sunday School Treasurer -  Pat Baba, Corporate   Treasurer - Ray Tamura, Recording Secretary - Bob Okubo, Corresponding Secretary - Joanne Kozuki. 

   Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • On Sunday, December 10th, Dharma School held its annual Mochitsuki fundraiser.  With everyone’s help, we produced over 1,000 lbs of mochi for sale (komochi, an mochi, and okasane sets)!  We enjoyed seeing everyone, and want to thank all who came out to help make this a big success.

   Jr. YBA – Sharon Akiyama

  • No report.

    Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

 

  • The club plans a special class on Thurs. 12/28 to make New Year’s flower arrangements

 

    JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

 

·         Upcoming event is a crab feed fundraiser for JASEB at the Oakland Cultural Center on Feb. 11th.  Tickets are on sale for $25.00 and will be $30.00 at the door. Contact Yukio Kitagawa if interested in attending.

    

   Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

  • Members attended the Bojuka tournament in Monterey on November 19th.  Derek Lin and Michael Sakaida placed first and Megan and Brandon Ikeda each placed second.  Congrats to all. 

Diablo Kendo Club – Mike Espinosa

 

·    Holidays are coming so they will be on a modified schedule.

 

 

   Nippongo Gakuen – Matt Simpson

 

  • Matt would like to gratefully acknowledge Arlene Nielson and Koto Suzuki for organizing the Holiday party.  It was absolutely wonderful and enjoyed by more than 200!  The biggest turn-out EVER!  Contact Matt Simpson for any suggestions or comments to make the Holiday party even better next year.          

   Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • No report. 

   Building Superintendent – Ted Uemura

 

  • Ted gratefully passes on his reign to Jon Yokoyama.    

Gardeners’ Club – No Rep

  • No report. 

 

New Business

 

  • The Installation dinner will be held on Monday January 15th at Suwa’s.  The cost will be $28.00 for non-JA club members and $15.00 for JA club members. Contact Mike Espinosa if interested in attending.

    

 

 

   Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

 

  • The Thanksgiving lunch was successful.  There is no December meeting. On Sat. Jan.20, 2007 at 1:00 p.m, .they will have their annual New Years luncheon at the JA club.  All are welcomed to attend. 

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

 

  • They are on holiday break.  Will resume meetings January, 2007. 

 

     Membership Chairperson – Mike Espinosa

 

  • 173 renewals processed and 24 new members (excluding seniors).  Notices are going out to those who did not renew.

 

 

     Old Business

 

  • The election for 2007 board members was completed tonight.  The following will be the officers for next year:
