Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  Oct. 4, 2006

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Minutes

There was no correction to the September minutes.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report. 

 

   Acknowledgements/Announcements

1.  Judo club donated $400.00 to the building fund.

2.  EBYAL donated $400.00 to the building fund.

3.  Dave and Jenifer Uemura donated $100.00.

4.  Dean and Viola Uemura donated $125.00 to the building fund.

5.  Letter received from Curtis Uemura thanking the JA club for the scholarship he received.  He reported that he would be using it for 2 years at DVC.

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:

 

 

 

     JARCC - Sam Sunada

·         The JARCC is holding its annual general meeting on 10/15 at 11 a.m.  The meeting is to hold elections for board members, decide on fund raisers and to schedule events. 

·         Gym lights are on order with plans to get them installed before the basketball practices start.

   Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Sat. Oct. 10t  is the first 5:30 p.m.evening service.  Calvin Fujinaga will be presiding. There will be a potluck dinner after service.

   Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada

  • No report.

    Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

  • No report.

    JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

·         The end of September the JASEB hosted a walk-a-thon in Berkeley.

·         October 14th SACBC Song Festival!

     Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

  • Scott Hisaka placed 2nd at the East Bay Judo tournament that took place at S.F. State on Sept. 10th

  Diablo Kendo Club – No representative

·    No rep.

   Nippongo Gakuen - Dave Zeismer

  • One of the children broke a window in the gym by accidentally throwing a basketball.  This is to be repaired ASAP.
  • The Holiday party is being planned for Sunday Dec. 3rd from 5-8 p.m. Plans are to set up the gym with decorations and tables on the day before the party, 12/02/06.

   Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • All kids that signed up for basketball last June HAVE been placed on teams. Many basketball teams, but not all, have begun practicing.  All coaches will be contacting families within the next few weeks if you haven’t heard what day/time your child will be practicing. 
  • The Diablo Basketball Tournament will take place on 10/21-10/22 at the Tice Valley gym in Walnut Creek.

        Building Superintendent – Ted Uemura

  • The side door of the gym was left open Monday night by whoever was the last one to use the gym.   PLEASE be much more diligent when using the facility.    
  • For anyone NOT coaching this year that still has JA club keys, they need to be turned into Joyce Shindo.  Dave Uemura will be contacting you if they are not turned in.

    Gardeners’ Club –

  • They are sponsoring a Tahoe Fun Trip!  All are welcome to attend, but prior reservations are necessary. The trip takes place on 10/22.  The bus leaves the JA club at 7 a.m. and will return by 9:30 p.m.  The cost is only $20.00 for the bus and entertainment!  Please contact either Mr. Sato at 707-425-1993 or Mr. Akiyama at 925-528-9504.  (this is NOT Wayne Akiyama) 

    

 

   Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

  • On October 21st the members will be having their “ochazuke” meeting at 1:00 pm.  Don’t forget your rice bowl, chop-sticks and goodies to share. 
  • November 18th is the Thanksgiving luncheon at 1 p.m. 

 

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

  • The festival appreciation dinner will be on Sat. Oct. 14th at 6 p.m. Anyone who worked at the summer festival is welcome to attend. It will be catered by New Mecca. 

    

Membership Chairperson – Mike Espinosa

  • New membership form is online.  The deadline for existing members to renew is October 31st.  There is a late fee of $25.00.  Mail to Mike Espinosa at 4410 Corkwood Ct., Concord  94521. 

    

Old Business - None

 

     New Business

  • It was requested tonight that there be a record of all the monthly meeting minutes on the premises.  These will be put together by the president and secretary in a binder and kept in the office.
  • REMINDER:  ALL affiliated clubs need to turn in their liability waivers to Pat Baba.  These will be kept in a binder in the office.  It was decided that 3 years of waivers would be kept and all the old ones would be shredded.
