Minutes of the J.A. Meeting

Meeting Date:  Sept. 6, 2006

President Pat Baba called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.

Corrections/Additions to Minutes

There was no correction to the July minutes.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  David Ziesmer presented the treasurer’s report. 

 

   Acknowledgements/Announcements

1.  Janice Mori donated $1,000 to the Building Fund.  This is gratefully appreciated.

2.  Mr. Terada donated $100 to the festival.

 

Affiliated Clubs/Chairpersons Reports:  
   

     JARCC - Sam Sunada

  • Mich Nakamura resigned.  We thank him for his years of volunteer work.  Ron Onizuka has volunteered to act as an interim board member. 

  • Congratulations to Ron Onizuka for putting on a successful summer festival.

  • Thank you to Ted Uemura for getting new lights installed in the parking lot.  It is a big improvement.

  • Gym lights are on order with plans to get them installed before the basketball practices start.

   Buddhist Fellowship - Sharon Akiyama

  • Church service begins Sunday Sept, 10th at 10 a.m.
  • Oct. 10th  is the first Saturday evening service at 5:30 p.m. 
   Jr. YBA – Sam Sunada
  • No report.

    Ikenobo Club - Pat Baba

  • No report.

    JASEB –Yukio Kitagawa

  • Request for $100.00 for the JASEB calendar.

  • Sept. 16th, the Concord Macy’s will be hosting “shop for a cause”.  For a $5.00 donation, you can get a 10-20% discount through-out the store.  The $5.00 will be donated to JASEB.  Let’s all go shopping!

     Judo Club - Leslie Hisaka

  • Sign-ups for the 2006-2007 season is on Thursday Sept. 7th. 

  Diablo Kendo Club – No representative

  • No rep.

   Nippongo Gakuen - Dave Zeismer
  • School begins on Sept. 7th. School is accepting student applications for all levels. Anyone interested in the school should contact Sonoe Hum at  (925) 957-0679.

  • The Holiday party is being planned for Sunday Dec. 3rd at 5 p.m.

   Athletic Club – Dave Uemura

  • Basketball teams have been picked.  The days and times for practices have NOT been set yet.  The coaches will be contacting all families within the next few weeks.
  • The basketball clinic is at Foothill Middle School this week-end 9/9 and 9/10. 

        Building Superintendent – Ted Uemura

  • Thanks to Dave Uemura, the bees have been professionally exterminated.  You may still see some honey on the ceiling or drippings on the floor. DO NOT eat it, as it has poison in it.    

    Gardeners’ Club – No representative

  • No rep. 

    

 

   Shinwakai – Yukio Kitagawa

  • This year was the JA clubs 50th annual summer festival.  Shinwakai would like to acknowledge Charlie Ajari and Victor Honda who were the JA Club’s first and second Summer Festival chairpersons 50 years ago! 

  • September 16th is the next mtg. Sweets will be shared by the members. 

  • On October 21st the members will be sharing “ochazuke”. 

  • November 18th is the Thanksgiving luncheon at 1 p.m.

Summer Festival – Ron Onizuka

  • ‘Thank you’ to all that worked at the festival. It was enjoyed by many. 

  • The festival appreciation dinner will be on Sat. Oct. 14th at 6 p.m.  It will be catered by New Mecca.

  • Ruth & Lillian from the Crafts Booth would also like to thank those of you  who donated to the Crafts booth.  Without the donations, there would be no booth!

     Membership Chairperson – No Representative

 

     Old Business - None

 

     New Business

  • REMINDER to all clubs to check the mailbox on a weekly basis.

  • REMINDER:  please have at least one member from each club attend the monthly JA Club meeting that takes place on the first Wed. of each month.

  • The by-laws will be posted on the wall outside the kitchen.
